Think Logically -

Are you swayed by mass advertising? Harry Lorayne
of 'Secrets of Mind Power' emphasizes the fact that we
should question things almost constantly. Never take things for
granted. Maybe you have heard or read of the saying, 'If you
assume something is so, it can make an 'ass u me'. So try
to be sure of your facts before you make a statement. I am sure
everyone of us have been guilty of ass u ming certain facts.
Some people when they want you to believe them have a tendency to
proclaim something loudly or repetitiously or both. People also tend
to believe what they hear because they heard it from some one
who is a 'reliable' source. I will repeat what Robert
Lynd said;
"It is easier to believe a lie that one has heard a thousand
times than to believe a fact that one has never heard before."
You will see many commercials using all three examples to get you to
buy their product which is fine as long as you take what they say
with a 'grain of salt'. Their product isn't necessarily the
best, cheapest, most reliable, etc.. They mostly don't care, they
just want to sell their product.
Many use a 'big name' to promote their product and many
people swallow what they say, 'hook, line and sinker'. Their
way of thinking can be:
1. Joe Jones is a very famous personality.
2. Joe Jones drinks Brand X beer.
3. Therefore Brand X must be a very good beer. Or.
1. Jane Smith is a very famous actress.
2. Jane Smith wears Brand X lipstick.
3. Therefore Brand X lipstick must be the best.
Many of us don't realize that just because that famous person is
advertising that product doesn't necessarily mean that they use it
themselves. Proof of our fallibility is the fact that millions of
dollars of that product is sold.

Article:
Seed -
Look Ma!---Twins!
Scratching your head, you
wonder
"Where did this other plant come from?"
Logic says that one seed yields one plant.
Eyesight says there are two.
Both look the same and are making their way up
close together.
What to do---What to do?!
When there are two and you have no clue,
perhaps it is time to re-evaluate your steps
and gain more information.
Your first desire is the original seed
you planted. Like a child it will need
your
loving attention to grow strong and bear fruit.
This second plant is something unplanned
and under all definitions could be considered
a weed.
And here is where our minds begin another
journey called, "What If"
What If---The first one doesn't pan out?
What If--- The first one dies off?
what If--- I make a mistake and kill the first one?
what If--- The bugs eat the first one?
what if---what if----what if---
Believe it or not, this mind game is
called, "Doubt" and it is
d-a-n-g-e-r-o-u-s.
As you begin to go forward and search out
more information on the first seed, you read
about hybrid seeds and all the different types
of seeds that were tried with less than stellar
outcomes.
All of a sudden you are questioning the first
actions you took and insecurity overtakes.
Your knowledge of tried and true seeds expands
and you become certain that your first seed was
not what you really wanted at all.
Off to the garden you trot with the intent
to yank that first new growth that you so
lovingly planted. All of the dreams
you had
at the time are forgotten. Your countenance
has changed and what you were determined to
bring to fruition is now meaningless to you.
Bending down overshadowing the little leaves
that are basking in the sunshine your fingers
grasp the delicate stalk at the base and just as
you go to yank----
Your heart screams the cry---"S-T-O-P!"
Many of us didn't listen to the cry of
our heart and we went ahead and yanked out
that first beginning.
The sadness turned into bitterness and a
certain poison entered our being. That journey
took a long time to overcome.
This is the result of doubt mixed with lack
of knowledge and understanding. Perhaps a dose
of impatience was added as well.
In actuality, you don't know the real from
the weed until the second set of leaves appear.
Perhaps there is room for two for now---at
least until there is definite proof of what
is actually growing in that garden....
Is it time for some confidence building?
Are those doubts poisoning your mind?

Doing it Right the Second Time Around

A few issues
back, we suggested a simple way to find keywords relevant to
your web site theme, was to ask your friends to help you. In
order to understand the
human condition whereby you are apt to get one or possible two
answers, we recommended specifically listing five separate lines
for their answers.
This round, we can consider a couple of steps you can do on your
own.
1.. One of the best ways to get ideas for keywords, is to
analyze your direct competitors pages. This doesn't mean you
simply copy and paste your
competitors keyword meta tags into your own site! Also be
VERY careful not to use trademarked names.
The major fallacy in such a thought of a strict action like
duplicating your competition's keywords is that your pages are
highly unlikely to be even
close in on-page optimization.
You can best find your competition websites by searching with
what you believe to be your own top two keywords in your
favorite search engine and taking a look at the source code of
the top ten websites in the top three Search engines.
Pay particular attention to the contents of the title tag
(<title>...</title>),
the keyword
<meta name="keywords"...
and description <meta name="description" meta tags.
Forget the
arguments about using meta data. Instead, use your eyes
and do your own research as to your gathered findings.
These meta tags should help you get several keyword ideas. There
is nothing unethical about researching your competitors'
websites. You can be sure
they have done the same for their own site.
Successful companies know their competitors. So analyze your
competitors websites in depth.
2. There are online resources that assist in the process of
keyword research and selection. Generally through the use of
large keyword databases holding the number of searches for any
given term over a specific time frame. Normally a month or
two worth of keywords.
These databases can be very useful as they not only provide the
number of searches but also help with synonyms and common
keyword combinations relating to your specific theme.
Not all keyword search tools are free. However, amongst those
most popular are
Word Tracker,
Trellian offers an
online free keyword search tool called
Keyword
Discovery.
Then there is
Google Keyword search tools that offer you different
approaches to finding keywords.
Simply typing in "free keyword search tools" will bring
you up a wonderful selection of keyword search tools that you
can play with till your heart's content.
There are some general guidelines to keyword selection that you
should take note of. For web sites with lots of competition, it
can normally be far more beneficial to optimize for two to three
word combinations rather than single word terms. [long-tail or
low hanging fruit]
When a site is new, it is apt to have very few if any, off-page
optimization such as inbound links.
Sticking to relevant keyword phrases that hone in on the theme
of your website is far more profitable in the long run, as you
have a greater opportunity of building the search engine style
ranking necessary to consistent traffic.
Search engine algorithms have a tendency to rank themed sites
above scattered resources and unrelated topics in content.
With the terribly large amount of information the world wide web
has presented, it is often smarter to consider the demographics
of the
targeted traffic you wish to earn.
Specific themes like automobile insurance, real estate and tax
preparation or credit reports etc have a much better chance at
success if the demographics point to a particular area rather
than all encompassing.
If however there is little competition, say less than 80,000
competing sites on a Google search, you can then go for single
term keywords regardless of your sites off page criteria (number
of incoming links).
Avoiding highly competitive terms it is definitely best when
starting out, and when a web site is new, until you get a better
feel for search engine optimization. Unless you are
prepared to outsource this work.
Plan for a maximum of only 3 keyword (phrases) per page. Even
three can be too many depending on the subject range.
Any more and you end up diluting the effect of any optimization
for each of your keywords.

| TIPS & TRICKS
Self Leadership & The One
Minute Manager
by Ken Blanchard, Susan Fowler and Laurence Hawkins |
|
Learning the first trick of self-leadership.
Here is a challenge: What you need - a pair of scissors and a
business card. Take the scissors and cut a hole from the card, large
enough to go around your head. The hole is a space surrounded by
continuous paper- no gaps or breaks or joining ends.
Now before you go away disgusted let me tell you the story of the
elephant:
"When they begin to train an elephant for the circus, they chain the
baby elephant's leg to a pole in the ground. The baby elephant wants
to get away. He pulls and tugs, but he can't escape-- the
chain is too big and the pole is too deep in the ground. So
he stops trying. As he grows up he just assumes he can't get away.
"Today he's a six-ton elephant. He could sneeze and pull out that
chain-- but he doesn't even try. Circus trainers say they can put a
piece of string around that six-ton elephant's leg and he
won't break away.
Do you have 'Elephant Thinking'? Because you have failed at times do
you not try any more? Are you limited by
'Assumed Constraints'?
An Assumed Constraint -- Is a belief you have, based on past
experience, that limits your current and future experiences.
Make sure you read the next issue and you will learn how to cut that
hole in the card. If you figure it out, then send your answer into

Three men were hiking through a forest when they came
upon a large raging, Violent river. Needing to get to the other
side, the first man prayed: ' God, please give me the strength
to cross the river. '
Poof! .. God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able
to swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.
After witnessing that, the second man prayed: ' God, please give
me strength and the tools to cross the river '
Poof! .. God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs
and he was able to row across in about an hour after almost
capsizing once.
Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed:
' God, please give me the strength, the tools and the
intelligence to cross the river '
Poof! . He was turned into a woman. She checked the map, hiked
one hundred yards up stream and walked across the bridge.
